The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has extended a Rajya Sabha berth offer to Chhagan Bhujbal, the state's food and civil supplies minister, who has shown interest in moving to national politics. However, the NCP has stipulated that if he accepts the offer, he cannot nominate anyone, including his nephew, Sameer Bhujbal, to take over his ministerial position. This decision was made during a core committee meeting at the official residence of deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar. Bhujbal, a veteran politician with seven legislative terms, has been a loyalist of NCP founder Sharad Pawar and previously served as deputy chief minister. His political journey has seen him switch factions, aligning with Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP, which is part of the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition. After the resignation of Dhananjay Munde, Bhujbal returned to the cabinet as food and civil supplies minister. The NCP's offer places Bhujbal in a difficult position as he had hoped to secure a political future for his nephew, Sameer, who has been active in the Yeola constituency. The NCP anticipates that if Bhujbal accepts the Rajya Sabha position, Munde would likely fill the ministerial vacancy.
