JPMorgan Chase & Co. has raised its targets for South Korea's Kospi index for the second time in less than a month, citing improvements in the semiconductor cycle, corporate governance reforms, and growth in the industrial sector. The Wall Street bank increased its base target to 9,000 and bull-case target to 10,000, indicating a 33% upside from Friday's close. This marks a significant revision from the previous targets of 7,000 and 8,500 set in late April. The Kospi index surged by up to 5.1% on Monday, reaching an intraday record of 7,876.60, and has rallied approximately 86% year-to-date, making it one of the top-performing indices globally. The rise in targets follows a similar move by Goldman Sachs, which also raised its Kospi target to 9,000 due to strong earnings momentum in Asia. JPMorgan strategists believe that the current market fundamentals, including memory cycle conditions and governance reforms, support a continued positive outlook for South Korean equities.
