A political confrontation has emerged in Wayanad district, Kerala, over alleged structural cracks in homes built for landslide survivors. The opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) accused the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) of inaugurating the township's first phase prematurely, claiming that the homes lack essential services like water and electricity. UDF leader VD Satheesan criticized Revenue Minister K Rajan for inspecting the alleged cracks, arguing that it is the engineers' responsibility to assess construction quality. Rajan, however, defended the project, stating that no homes have been handed over yet, only land titles. The township, inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on March 1, aims to provide housing for 178 families and will eventually include amenities such as health centers and recreational areas. The situation highlights the ongoing political tensions in Kerala as elections approach.
