The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 exam, which was conducted on May 3, following serious allegations of a paper leak. The Indian government has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter. Prominent political figures, including AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, have criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the cancellation. In response to the situation, the NTA has assured students that their registration data, candidature, and selected examination centers will be retained for the re-examination, which will be organized using NTA's internal resources. No new registration will be necessary, and students will receive refunds for any fees already paid. The NEET UG 2026 exam was initially scheduled for May 3 and involved nearly 23 lakh registered candidates across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. Investigations are ongoing regarding the alleged involvement of a doctor in Gurugram, Haryana, who reportedly received the leaked exam paper.
