Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced a comprehensive initiative to ensure that no untreated water flows into the Yamuna River by the end of 2027. Currently, 91 sewage treatment plants (STPs) are operational in the Yamuna catchment area, with a total capacity of 1,543 million liters per day (MLD). In the past five years, 41 STPs with a capacity of 593 MLD have been established. To further combat pollution, 11 new STPs are under construction. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for industries to treat their waste, as some have been found discharging untreated water into village ponds. He directed that common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) be installed on all major drains leading to the Yamuna, with plans for eight new CETPs to enhance treatment capacity. Additionally, a meeting with Delhi's Chief Minister is planned to address the issue of untreated water flowing from Delhi into Haryana.
