Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to hold talks with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in Moscow from June 7 to 9. This official visit marks Rahman's first trip to Russia in his current role, following the formation of a new government in Bangladesh after the parliamentary elections in February 2024. The ministers will address various bilateral and international issues, with a particular focus on their collaboration within the United Nations, especially after Rahman's election as President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, highlighted the importance of this meeting, noting that the last high-level diplomatic contact occurred in September 2023, when Lavrov visited Bangladesh. Additionally, Rahman's itinerary includes discussions with the leadership of Russia’s Federation Council and the Rosatom State Corporation. The Russian government has emphasized the longstanding partnership with Dhaka, underlined by a robust annual trade turnover exceeding $2 billion.
