Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was sworn in as the thirteenth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after achieving a historic victory in the 2026 elections, where TVK won 108 out of 234 seats. This marked a significant political shift, as it was the first time both major Dravidian parties, the DMK and AIADMK, were ousted from power. Despite not securing a majority alone, Vijay received support from several parties, including the Congress and CPI. His rise is being compared to that of former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, reflecting his popularity and the expectations for his leadership.
