The Maharashtra state government has officially transferred Tushar Doshi, the Superintendent of Police in Satara, to the neighboring Sangli district amid allegations of bias and misconduct related to the March 2026 Zilla Parishad elections. The accusations were made by members of the Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, after the BJP secured the Zilla Parishad president position. Doshi, a 2001-batch officer of the Maharashtra Police, has held various significant roles, including deputy commissioner of police (Crime) in Navi Mumbai. His tenure has not been without controversy; he faced backlash in 2023 for ordering a lathicharge on Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil during a hunger strike, leading to a temporary leave pending inquiry. In the recent reshuffle, several other police officers have been reassigned, including Pune DCP Nikhil Pingle, who will take over in Satara, and Sangli SP Sandeep Ghuge, who has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This reshuffle reflects the ongoing political dynamics and the government's efforts to address issues such as naxalism in the region.
