The Communist Party of India (CPI) has called for the resignation of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar following the registration of a case against his son, Bandi Sai Bhageerath, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Telangana. CPI Andhra Pradesh State Secretary Eswaraiah stated that the case involves allegations of harassment against a 17-year-old girl, which were reported to the Basheerabad Police Station. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for their silence on the matter, describing it as political hypocrisy aimed at shielding the accused. Eswaraiah expressed concern that Kumar's continued ministerial role could hinder a fair investigation, potentially allowing for the misuse of power and tampering with evidence. To address the situation, the CPI has outlined three key demands: the immediate resignation of Kumar to facilitate a transparent inquiry, police protection for the victim and her family, and a time-bound impartial investigation free from political pressure. The party also called for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future, emphasizing the necessity of equal application of the law.
