The Maharashtra government has mandated the teaching of the Marathi language in all schools from first to tenth standard, regardless of the educational board or medium of instruction. This decision, aimed at promoting the Marathi language, comes with strict penalties for non-compliance. Schools that fail to adhere to this mandate will first receive a notice and must respond within 15 days. If no valid response is provided, a fine of up to ₹1 lakh (approximately $1,200 USD) will be imposed. Furthermore, schools must begin teaching Marathi in the next academic year. If a school continues to disregard the order after an appeal, its recognition or No-Objection Certificate (NOC) may be revoked. The Divisional Deputy Director of Education will oversee violations and fines, while the final decision regarding recognition will be made by the School Education Commissioner within three months after a hearing.
