During a meeting organized by the Dharwad Swabhimani Horatagarara Samiti, participants expressed their intention to intensify efforts for the bifurcation of HDMC, advocating for a separate municipal corporation for Dharwad. Critics of the BJP claim that the party's assertions regarding increased funding from the Greater HDMC are misleading, arguing that an exclusive corporation would receive similar financial support as other corporations in the state. The meeting also resolved to file a public interest litigation against the Governor for delaying approval of the bifurcation. If the demands are not addressed, the stakeholders plan to call for a Dharwad bandh as a last resort. The Leader of Opposition in the HDMC Council, Imran Yeligar, accused the BJP of betraying the residents of Dharwad, criticizing the hurried passage of the resolution without adequate discussion.
