Construction has begun on a new student accommodation tower at 41 Tribune Street in South Brisbane, developed by Scape. The facility will feature 527 beds across 17 storeys, offering a combination of studio and two-bedroom apartments, along with retail and food outlets on the ground floor. Jonathan Combley, general manager of developments at Scape Group, emphasized that this project addresses the increasing demand for student housing in the city, which continues to outpace supply. The updated design plans, which were submitted to Brisbane City Council, reveal a boxier facade and new landscaping along the street. Scape has owned the Tribune Street site since at least 2020, previously occupied by the Hoo Ha Bar. The student accommodation market is expanding in Brisbane, with major developments like Dexus’s conversion of the former Mineral House into a hub with about 1,200 beds. The Property Council of Australia reported that approximately 14,000 student accommodation units are currently under construction across the country, reflecting a significant growth in this sector.
