Residents of south-east Queensland are preparing for additional heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential flash flooding on Thursday following significant rainfall overnight. Areas north of Brisbane, such as Burpengary and Dayboro, recorded 69 millimetres and 61 millimetres of rain, while Brisbane's CBD saw 45 millimetres. Jonathan How, a senior meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, highlighted the risk of flash flooding due to the saturated ground and predicted further heavy showers. The region has experienced 340,000 lightning strikes in just 24 hours. The current weather pattern is attributed to an upper-level low-pressure system that has been destabilizing the atmosphere, combined with a tropical moisture feed from the Tasman Sea. However, conditions are expected to improve by Friday, with light showers forecasted and a pleasant weekend ahead, featuring moderate temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius. How noted that the weekend is anticipated to be “really beautiful.”
