India has emerged as the second-largest wind market in the world by 2025, commissioning 6.3 gigawatts (GW) of wind turbines, an 85% increase from the previous year. This growth is attributed to innovative clean power auctions and delayed projects from 2024. The country is projected to add a total of 30 GW of wind capacity by 2030.

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), India has become the second-largest wind market globally in 2025, commissioning a record 6.3 gigawatts (GW) of wind turbines, an 85% increase from the previous year. This achievement places India ahead of the United States and Germany. The surge in capacity was driven by the rise of multi-technology complex clean power auctions, which require developers to integrate various renewable technologies, including solar, wind, and energy storage. Additionally, a backlog of projects initially scheduled for 2024, which faced delays due to grid connectivity issues, contributed to the increased capacity. Notably, Adani Wind, part of Adani Green Energy, deployed over 1 GW of turbines for a 30-gigawatt renewable energy park under construction in Khavda, Kutch district, Gujarat, elevating its global ranking to 15th among turbine manufacturers. The analysis indicates that European and US manufacturers are losing market share to Asian competitors, benefiting domestic firms like Suzlon and Inox Wind. Looking ahead, while annual wind power capacity additions are anticipated to slightly decline in 2026 to just over 5 GW, a rebound is expected from 2027 as new transmission capacity facilitates faster project commissioning. India aims to add a total of 30 GW of new wind capacity by 2030.
