Officials from Yashotej Academy in Pune, Maharashtra, India, have been booked on charges of negligence related to the suicide of 16-year-old Avdhut Ulhas Bade, who was preparing for the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance exams. The Fursungi police registered the First Information Report (FIR) following a complaint from Bade's father. The incident occurred on November 10, 2025, in the academy's hostel located in the Handewadi area. Bade, originally from Beed district, had joined the academy on June 15, 2025. Reports indicate that he was accused of stealing ₹3,000 (approximately $36 USD) from his roommate, which led to threats of expulsion from the academy. This situation reportedly caused him significant distress, culminating in his suicide. Investigators have pointed out that the academy failed to provide necessary counseling to Bade, prompting charges against the academy's director, CEO, and warden under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses negligence leading to death. The investigation is ongoing.
