Ravichandran Ashwin, a celebrated former Indian cricketer, has expressed his belief that young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently won the Orange Cap in IPL 2026 with 776 runs, should pursue a career in Test cricket. Speaking at the Cricinfo Honours Awards 2026, where Ashwin was recognized as one of the 'Greatest Men's International Cricketers of the 21st Century,' he emphasized the importance of nurturing players for the longer format of the game. However, he acknowledged the current trend among young cricketers, who seem more interested in limited-overs formats than in red-ball cricket. Ashwin's own career concluded in December 2024, with an impressive record of 765 wickets across all formats, making him India's second-highest wicket-taker, just behind Anil Kumble. His achievements include being the only player in Test history to score over six centuries while also taking more than 500 wickets.
