For decades, Stegosaurus was perceived as a solitary dinosaur, often depicted as unintelligent in popular culture. However, a 2024 study published in *Scientific Reports* challenges this view by analyzing fossilized footprints known as Deltapodus tracks, which suggest that these dinosaurs may have traveled in groups. The researchers examined numerous trackways in the Iberian Peninsula, finding parallel tracks that indicate coordinated movement. While the study does not claim that herd behavior was universal among Stegosaurus, it does refute the notion of their strict solitary lifestyle. This new perspective highlights the importance of trackways in understanding dinosaur behavior, as they provide insights into movement patterns and social interactions that fossilized bones cannot reveal. Although many questions about Stegosaurus social structures remain, this research encourages a reevaluation of how these dinosaurs are portrayed in both science and popular media.
