India's electronics component exports to China have soared to a record $2.5 billion in the fiscal year 2026 (FY26), showcasing the early success of the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) launched last year. This marks a pivotal shift in trade patterns, reversing the previous trend where China primarily exported components to India. Industry executives predict that total electronics exports to China could reach $3.5 billion by the end of FY26, with $2.8 billion already achieved by January. In FY25, electronics exports to China were only around $920 million. The increase is largely attributed to Apple's establishment of a competitive local ecosystem for component manufacturing, spurred by the smartphone Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Apple has produced $70 billion worth of iPhones in India, with $51 billion exported, making iPhones the largest exported commodity from India. Major Indian vendors like Foxconn, Tata Electronics, and Motherson have contributed significantly to this export growth. With the ECMS aiming to enhance domestic manufacturing and exports of components, India is positioned to become a key player in global electronics supply chains, potentially exporting significantly to China, which imported over $600 billion in electronics in the previous year.
