On Wednesday, shares of smallcap companies such as IIFL Finance, Hindustan Copper, and Meesho experienced a notable rally, with gains reaching up to 7%. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose by 153 points (approximately 0.85%) to settle around 18,092. IIFL Finance led the gains, surging 7% after the company reassured investors about its financial stability despite a tax demand notice from Mumbai's IT authority for nearly ₹476 crore (roughly $57.5 million USD). Hindustan Copper followed closely with a 6% increase, buoyed by rising metal prices. Meesho also contributed to the rally with a gain of over 4%. Other notable performers included Manappuram Finance, which rose over 3% due to increased gold prices following a government duty hike. Despite ongoing market caution, analysts like Aniruddha Naha from PGIM India Asset Management express confidence in the resilience of mid and smallcap earnings, viewing the recent market correction as an opportunity rather than a sign of deeper issues.
