The charging guns, valued at ₹1.5 lakh (approximately $1,800 USD) each, are essential for connecting electric vehicles to charging stations. This incident marks the first reported theft of e-charging guns, prompting questions about security at BEST’s depots. Ramakant Gupta, a member of the BEST committee in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has called for investigations into security protocols at other depots as well. In response, BEST general manager Sonia Sethi announced plans to enhance security, including increasing the height of the compound wall around the depot and boosting the number of security personnel. BEST currently operates 1,800 e-buses and is in the process of expanding its fleet with an order for 4,500 more e-buses, of which 700-800 have already been added.
