Suvendu Adhikari has made history as West Bengal's first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), following a significant electoral victory where the BJP secured 207 seats against the Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s 80 seats. In his election affidavit, Adhikari reported a net worth of ₹85.87 lakh (approximately $103,000 USD), comprising ₹24.57 lakh in movable assets and ₹61.30 lakh in immovable assets. Notably, he does not own a personal vehicle or any gold jewellery. Adhikari's financial disclosures include various bank deposits and investments in savings schemes, alongside agricultural land in Purba Medinipur, a political stronghold for his family. His annual income is reported at ₹17.38 lakh for the fiscal year 2024-25. However, his political career is marred by 29 pending criminal cases, including serious allegations under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Comparatively, outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared assets worth ₹15 lakh with no liabilities. Adhikari's rise to power signifies a major political shift in West Bengal, previously dominated by the TMC for over a decade.
