In light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, following the US and Israel's airstrikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made seven appeals to promote economic resilience. Speaking in Secunderabad after inaugurating projects worth approximately ₹9,400 crore (roughly $1.1 billion USD), Modi emphasized the need for citizens to prioritize work from home, avoid foreign travel for a year, and reduce consumption of petrol, diesel, and cooking oil. These measures are reminiscent of the restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic and are aimed at mitigating the economic impact of rising global crude oil prices, which have surged to over $105 per barrel due to geopolitical tensions. The appeals also include a call to reduce gold purchases, which currently amount to $72 billion annually, to help bolster India's investment in crude oil and curb inflation. Modi's message is clear: prioritizing local products and adopting responsible consumption practices are essential for a stronger, more self-reliant India.
