The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) grouping is actively working on updating its counter-terrorism strategy to tackle emerging threats such as terror financing, money laundering, and cyber threats. The Counter-Terrorism Working Group is currently convening in New Delhi, focusing on enhancing information sharing and addressing the cyber threats posed by extremist groups. Co-led by Russia and Indonesia, the group has shown support for India's concerns regarding cross-border terrorism. At a recent Foreign Ministers' meeting, BRICS condemned all forms of terrorism, emphasizing that such acts are unjustifiable regardless of their motivation. The ministers acknowledged India's position on cross-border terrorism, particularly in relation to the Jammu and Kashmir issue, and condemned a terrorist attack that occurred in the region last year, which resulted in significant casualties. They reiterated the importance of holding accountable those involved in terrorism and stressed that combating terrorism is primarily the responsibility of individual nations. The BRICS members also called for the swift adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the United Nations framework to bolster collective efforts against terrorism.
