India's performance at the inaugural CASA Rugby 7s 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, marked a promising start to the international rugby season. The senior men's team secured a silver medal after an impressive run, winning four matches against Uzbekistan (24-12), Kyrgyzstan (31-0), Mongolia (26-14), and Pakistan (20-14). They faced Sri Lanka in the final, where they lost 10-31. Meanwhile, the women's team, featuring emerging players, finished fourth. They began with losses against Uzbekistan (7-22) and Kazakhstan (7-19) but rebounded with a stunning 72-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan and a 33-0 win against Mongolia. A highlight was their dramatic 22-19 win against Sri Lanka, handing the champions their only defeat in the tournament. Ultimately, the women lost to Uzbekistan 14-20 in the third-place playoff. Mahak was named the Women’s Player of the Tournament, leading India with nine tries, while the men's team saw David Munda and Sumit Kumar Roy each score four tries. Rugby India President Rahul Bose noted the tournament's significance for both teams as they prepare for the 2026 season.
