In the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, actor-turned-politician Vijay's party, the Tamil Nadu Vanniyar Katchi (TVK), emerged as the single-largest party, winning 108 seats out of 234. Although this falls short of the majority mark of 118, the party is expected to form a government with the backing of Congress, which won 5 seats, bringing the total to 113. Additionally, TVK is counting on support from key allies, including the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of Marxist (CPM), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), each securing two seats. In contrast, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by MK Stalin only managed 59 seats, losing even his stronghold in Kolathur to TVK. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 47 seats, remaining a notable force in the state's political landscape. The new government formation is anticipated to take place as early as May 7, 2026.
