A 23-year-old domestic worker from Manipur, C Nianghaunuam, has filed a complaint against her employer's spouse for wrongful confinement, physical assault, and starvation at a residence on the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore campus in Bilekahalli, Bengaluru. Nianghaunuam, who has been employed by the couple since 2019, claims that the abuse started in 2021, with her employer's wife, Anshu, frequently assaulting her and monitoring her phone. The last incident of assault occurred on April 15, 2023, after which she was allegedly locked inside the house and denied food starting May 4. She managed to contact neighbors for help, who provided her with food and assisted her in reaching out to relatives and the Kuki Students' Organisation Bengaluru (KSOB). Following her complaint, police registered a case under Sections 115(2) and 127(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In response, IIM Bangalore stated that they are committed to providing necessary support to the victim, despite her not being employed through the institute's contractors.
