Elon Musk, the CEO of X, formerly known as Twitter, did not appear for a mandatory hearing in Paris related to an investigation into his platform's AI chatbot, Grok. The Paris prosecutor's office is probing allegations of algorithm abuse and fraudulent data extraction, with the investigation recently expanding to include suspected complicity in child pornography distribution and the creation of sexual deepfakes. This situation has exacerbated existing tensions between the US and Europe concerning Big Tech and free speech. The summons for Musk was issued in February following a raid on X's French office by the cybercrime unit. Musk has previously dismissed the investigation as politically motivated, and the US Justice Department has indicated it will not cooperate with the French authorities. The French prosecutor's office stated that the absence of Musk or other summoned individuals does not impede the investigation's progress. The inquiry has also drawn in former X CEO Linda Yaccarino and other staff members as witnesses.
