Maruti Suzuki has officially discontinued the Ignis hatchback in India following a significant decline in sales. Launched in 2017, the Ignis was aimed at young urban consumers and featured a 1.2-litre petrol engine. However, despite a price reduction of up to ₹71,000 due to changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST), sales plummeted, with February 2026 figures showing a nearly 50% year-on-year decrease to 1,902 units. While production has been halted for over a month, bookings for the Ignis remain open on Maruti's website. In contrast, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) reported a 16.72% increase in total sales to 2,25,251 units in March 2026. The company is now reportedly focusing on developing a new micro SUV, similar to the popular Tata Punch, to meet market demands.
