Tom Kopke, a 23-year-old medical student from Germany, has made headlines by solving a Rubik’s Cube in 23.333 seconds during a skydive, setting a new Guinness World Record. The record was achieved in February while he was free-falling at 100 mph over Mossel Bay, South Africa. Kopke's accomplishment surpasses the previous record of 28.250 seconds set by Australian Sam Sieracki in 2023. Having first solved the Rubik’s Cube at age 18, Kopke practiced extensively for this challenge, initially attempting to solve it in a stomach-down position before switching to back-flying to minimize wind resistance. Despite being new to skydiving, he practiced diligently and overcame initial difficulties, including concerns about dropping the cube during the dive. Looking ahead, Kopke aims to tackle the challenge of solving the Rubik’s Cube while running a marathon.
