On Thursday, floor leaders of various Opposition parties will gather in Mallikarjun Kharge's office in Parliament to finalize their strategy for a special session. This session is expected to introduce three critical bills, including the Women's Reservation Bill aimed at reserving seats for women in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and the Delimitation Bill that proposes redrawing constituency boundaries and increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats from 543 to a maximum of 850. The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 will be introduced by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Home Minister Amit Shah, respectively. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for opposition support to ensure the women's reservation comes into effect based on the 2011 census. While the opposition expresses support for women's reservation, they have voiced strong opposition to the Delimitation Bill, raising concerns about the implications of changing constituency boundaries.
