The Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed the recruitment process for 613 assistant professor positions in Haryana, ruling that the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) violated University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations. Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya's bench found that the HPSC's selection criteria deviated from the 2018 UGC regulations, which require academic qualifications to be the basis for shortlisting candidates. The court noted that the commission's approach, which included a screening test followed by a subject knowledge test and interview, was not compliant with the mandated academic score-based selection process. The bench emphasized that UGC regulations are statutory and binding, asserting that the Haryana government must issue a new advertisement for recruitment that aligns with these standards. This ruling underscores the importance of adhering to established educational regulations in higher education recruitment.
