Bruce, an Alsatian dog, experienced a harrowing adventure when he was swept nearly three miles out to sea while in an inflatable kayak. His owner, Arran McArthur, had taken Bruce for a fun day at the beach when a sudden wave knocked the dog from his grasp. Arran swam after Bruce but was unable to reach him due to a strong offshore breeze. He returned to Bamburgh beach in Northumberland to alert the coastguard. The RNLI lifeboat was dispatched, and a mayday call was heard by Jimmy Reid, a tourist boat skipper. Reid and his crewmate, Aaron Fordy, joined the search, ultimately spotting Bruce in the kayak. Upon reaching the kayak, they found Bruce terrified and shivering. Aaron managed to rescue him from the water, and they warmed him up before returning to shore. Arran was relieved to be reunited with Bruce, expressing gratitude for the rescue effort and vowing not to take Bruce kayaking again.
