In Patnanungan, Quezon, a fisherman discovered a package containing a white crystalline substance, suspected to be cocaine, valued at around P5.8 million. The fisherman, while crabbing, found the tape-sealed package buried in sand and reported it to the police later that evening. Weighing 1,107.8 grams, the substance is currently undergoing laboratory testing for confirmation. This incident marks the third reported cocaine recovery in Barangay Busdak this year, following previous discoveries of packages worth P16.7 million and P34.5 million. The local government has rewarded honest fishermen with P100,000 for their cooperation. Authorities, including Quezon Police Provincial Office director Colonel Romulo Albacea, suspect that the cocaine originated from outside the Philippines, likely washed ashore due to strong ocean currents. Quezon province's extensive coastline, measuring 1,066 kilometers, has been identified as vulnerable to illegal drug trafficking.
