Jeremiah Schofield, a former SSA official, described a conference call where the plan was laid out, indicating a strategy to create hardship for immigrants. He later filed a detailed disclosure to the Senate Finance Committee. The Department of Homeland Security purportedly provided a list of names that included U.S. citizens and legal residents, raising concerns about legal violations. While the SSA denied executing the plan, the revelation has drawn sharp criticism from Senate Democrats, including Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal, who labeled it an illegal attempt to misuse Social Security data.
