The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has commenced a comprehensive drive to identify residential properties being misused for commercial purposes, following directions from the Supreme Court. Zonal Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with conducting ground inspections within seven days, focusing on areas such as approved and unauthorized colonies, group housing societies, and mixed-use zones. The MCD will compile verified lists of violations, which will be submitted as an affidavit to the Supreme Court. This initiative aims to address the long-standing issue of residential spaces being converted into shops, clinics, and offices, which has led to previous enforcement actions under the Delhi Master Plan. The findings from this inspection could significantly influence future enforcement strategies regarding land-use regulations in the rapidly urbanizing city.
