On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a water ATM in the Shalimar Bagh area, coinciding with an alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding a heatwave. This water ATM, described as unique, will provide residents with 30 liters of clean drinking reverse osmosis (RO) water daily. Gupta highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring access to drinking water for every resident, particularly in unauthorized colonies and jhuggi clusters, which house millions. The initiative includes a total of eight water ATMs installed as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts of Indian Oil Company. Gupta also reiterated the government's goal of providing pucca homes to all residents of jhuggis, emphasizing the need for community cooperation in maintaining public spaces by avoiding the establishment of new jhuggis that block roads.
