Dan Lin, the chairman of Netflix film, recently discussed the company's evolving approach to film releases in an interview with The New York Times. He confirmed that Netflix has accepted it will not collaborate with filmmakers who prioritize theatrical releases, stating, "There is a group of filmmakers who still want theatrical. Those are filmmakers that we’ve accepted we just won’t work with." This statement comes after Netflix decided to give Greta Gerwig's adaptation of the Narnia series a wide theatrical release, which Lin clarified is an exception to their usual strategy. The film is set to premiere in theaters on February 12, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on April 2, 2027. Lin also mentioned that the upcoming film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher, will have a limited two-week Imax run starting November 25, 2026, before its Netflix debut on December 23, 2026. Under Lin’s leadership, Netflix aims to focus on producing fewer, higher-quality films, with an emphasis on comedies, romantic comedies, and book adaptations, as exemplified by the success of People We Meet on Vacation.
