The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended Mahesh Patil, an Assistant Commissioner in the K-North ward, following serious allegations of cheating Habiba Jaaferi, the wife of actor Jaaved Jaaferi, out of ₹16.24 crore. The suspension order was issued on June 7, with Patil reportedly going absconding after the complaint was filed. According to the allegations, Patil and his associates enticed Habiba Jaaferi to invest in a redevelopment project in Bandra, Mumbai, by promising high returns and substantial profits. They are also accused of creating forged documents to facilitate the scam. An FIR has been registered at Khar Police Station, leading to a cheating case against Patil and five other accomplices. Given the gravity of the situation, the investigation has now been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch, which is actively conducting raids at various locations to apprehend Patil and the other individuals involved in this fraudulent scheme. The case highlights significant concerns regarding investment scams and the need for vigilance in financial dealings.
