Allegations of sexual harassment and attempted religious conversion at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO unit in Nashik, Maharashtra, India have raised serious concerns regarding the role of the human resources department. Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik reported that the HR head allegedly discouraged a victim from filing a complaint, stating, “these things happen.” As a result, nine FIRs have been filed, leading to the arrest of eight individuals, including seven men. The police's initial counselling efforts prompted more victims to come forward, resulting in multiple FIRs. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate the complaints made by eight female employees alleging mental and sexual harassment by senior colleagues. In a related development, a Nashik court has remanded the female operations manager in judicial custody until April 28. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the allegations, with a visit scheduled for April 17. The committee will assess workplace safety mechanisms and recommend improvements.
