These messages prompt users with alerts like 'Urgent System Update Required,' which, when clicked, lead to the installation of malware instead of legitimate updates. This malware can grant fraudsters control over the device, allowing access to sensitive information such as banking credentials, camera, and microphone. To protect themselves, users are advised to install updates only via the official 'System Update' option in their phone settings and to avoid links received through messages or browsers. Additionally, the police recommend disabling the 'Install from Unknown Sources' option and using trusted antivirus software. If users accidentally click on a malicious link, they should disconnect from the internet, scan their devices for threats, and change passwords for sensitive accounts using a secure device. Victims of financial fraud are encouraged to report incidents promptly via the cyber helpline number 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Portal.
