Siba Prasad Mohanty, managing director of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL), visited the Namrup site in Dibrugarh to assess the progress of the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project, which has a projected investment of ₹10,600 crore. During his inspection, Mohanty highlighted the importance of adhering to timelines and maintaining quality and safety standards. The project, launched with a Bhoomi Pujan by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 21, 2025, aims to significantly enhance fertilizer production in Northeast India, with an annual capacity of about 1.25 million metric tonnes. This brownfield project is being developed within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited and is expected to create considerable employment opportunities. The facility will also help reduce farmers' reliance on distant production centers, ensuring timely availability of fertilizers. Key groundwork activities, including bush clearing and geotechnical investigations, have already commenced, indicating a strong commitment to the project's timely completion. The new unit is poised to transform the region's agricultural landscape and contribute to Assam's economic growth.
