A tragic incident occurred on Monday night at an ethanol unit in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, where 24-year-old Dananth Jaya Malik from Odisha died after inhaling suspected toxic fumes while cleaning a sump water tank. Malik was part of a maintenance team that included three other workers from Odisha and a supervisor. As they entered the tank, they began to faint due to inhaling noxious fumes, which can be present in water tanks at ethanol plants due to residual chemical waste. The supervisor, P Mullai Vendhan, quickly rescued the workers and transported them to a private hospital in Manjankaranai, where they were later referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, Malik succumbed to his condition while being transported, while the other four workers are reported to be stable.
