The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has assured the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it will refrain from taking any coercive measures against the Trident Group until May 4. This assurance follows a petition filed by Deepak Nanda, the managing director of Trident Group, who requested a 15-day notice before any state action could be taken. The legal challenge arises after a raid on Trident's Barnala unit on April 24, shortly after Rajinder Gupta, the company's founder and a member of the Rajya Sabha, resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gupta's resignation, along with six other MPs, has raised concerns about the timing of the PPCB's inspection, which Trident claims was arbitrary and politically motivated. The PPCB's counsel argued that the raid was routine and that no further action is planned. After noting the PPCB's commitment to restraint, the high court postponed the hearing to Monday and issued notices to the Punjab government and the PPCB for a formal response.
