The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has adopted a strategy known as 'shadow transit' to facilitate the transport of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by Bloomberg. This technique involves vessels navigating the strait with their transponders switched off, thereby allowing ADNOC to continue its exports despite increasing regional tensions. According to sources, ADNOC is collaborating with logistics operator Navig8 and chemical company Wanhua Chemical Group for this operation. Once the vessels pass through the Strait of Hormuz, the cargoes are transferred to other ships off the coast near the ports of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and Sohar in Oman, or they are directed to ports in India. The report highlights that other oil producers in the Middle East are also seeking ways to maintain their supply routes through the strait, although many are dependent on leased tankers and the cautious approach of shipowners in the current geopolitical climate.
