The higher education landscape in Odisha has experienced a remarkable boost in research and innovation, with patent filings soaring from approximately 300 to 1,155 over the past two years. This surge reflects a concerted effort by both public and private universities to enhance their focus on research and industry collaboration. Additionally, the state has seen a 33% increase in research publications, totaling over 20,000. Significant achievements include the transfer of an anti-diabetic drug technology from Ravenshaw University to industry, which is currently in production. The state also boasts 22 centres of excellence across eight public universities, focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence and nano science. To further strengthen the research ecosystem, the government is supporting 300 PhD scholars through the Mukhyamantri Research and Innovation Programme, providing monthly fellowships and funding for research projects and publications. This initiative is complemented by 75 memorandums of understanding signed with various institutions to foster collaborative research efforts.
