On Saturday, the Tripura Forest Department launched the Forestry Integrated Geospatial Solution (FIGS) at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala, aiming to modernize forest governance and improve natural resource management. Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma highlighted the platform's integration of GIS mapping, remote sensing, and real-time monitoring tools, which will enhance transparency and support livelihood planning for communities relying on forest resources. With nearly 70% of Tripura's area covered by forests, FIGS is designed to identify region-specific livelihood opportunities, ensuring that development interventions are informed by accurate data. As part of the initiative, 300 mobile devices were distributed to field staff for real-time data collection and monitoring. The launch also included the release of four publications documenting the SCATFORM project's achievements in biodiversity conservation and community-managed landscapes. This technological shift is expected to significantly improve forest management practices and promote sustainable development in the region.
