The Indian Air Force (IAF) has mobilized helicopters equipped with 'Bambi Buckets' to assist in extinguishing forest fires in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. This deployment responds to an urgent request for aerial support due to the challenging mountainous terrain that hampers ground firefighting efforts. The 'Bambi Bucket' system allows helicopters to scoop water from nearby sources and drop it directly on fire hotspots, helping to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Shivalik range and prevent the fire from spreading to residential areas. Despite over 230 reported fire incidents this season, the situation in Himachal Pradesh remains largely under control, thanks to effective inter-agency coordination. The Forest Department has implemented modern technology, including drones for surveillance and an app-based alert system for rapid response. The state government is also seeking to expand the Forest Fire Prevention and Management Scheme to enhance future firefighting efforts, while personnel in high-risk districts have had their leaves restricted to ensure readiness.
