The Election Commission of India has initiated the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories, starting from May 30. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh have been excluded from this rollout due to weather-related challenges and operational constraints in high-altitude and snow-bound areas. The Election Commission stated that the schedule for these regions will be issued separately after the completion of Phase-II of the Census, emphasizing the need for feasible field deployment. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar encouraged all electors to participate actively in the SIR Phase III, which will involve over 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers visiting 36.73 crore electors to ensure accurate electoral rolls. The SIR has previously been conducted in several states, including Bihar and West Bengal.
