After nearly five years of delays, civic elections for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) are anticipated to occur between June 14 and 24, 2026. State Election Commissioner GS Sangreshi announced that the elections will proceed as mandated by the Supreme Court, which requires a compliance report by June 30. The GBA has an electorate of approximately 88.95 lakh voters across 369 wards, and elections will utilize ballot papers instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Despite concerns raised by GBA officials regarding the monsoon season and staffing shortages, the SEC emphasized adherence to the Supreme Court's timeline. Additionally, the elections are taking place amid a legal challenge to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, which is currently under review by the Karnataka High Court. Mr. Sangreshi reiterated that the SEC's role is limited to conducting the elections as per the court's directives.
