S&P Global Ratings has indicated that India is effectively managing global financial pressures, with concerns about foreign outflows being overstated. YeeFarn Phua, the director of sovereign and international public finance ratings for Asia, stated that India possesses a sufficient buffer to handle a potential increase in its current-account deficit due to rising oil prices. This assessment comes after S&P upgraded India's credit rating to BBB from BBB- in August, reflecting a stable outlook for the economy. Phua emphasized that while net foreign business investment outflows have been noted, they mainly represent profit repatriation, and gross inflows remain strong. In February, India recorded net foreign direct investments of $4.6 billion following six months of outflows. To mitigate the economic impact of the ongoing Iran war, India is contemplating emergency measures, including increasing fuel prices and limiting non-essential imports such as gold and electronics.
